Wikipedia documents ESN, cites Orlu as a war zone
Global free encyclopedia, Wikipedia has documented the southeast based local vigilante group, Eastern Security Network.
Wikipedia, recognizing the safety outfit as fragment body of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) also cited an Orlu local government, Imo State as being under battles and war.
The encyclopedia recorded the aim of ESN being to protect the Eastern region against terrorism and banditry as witnessed across Nigerian states.
Primarily, it also recognized IPOB as a movement aimed at restoring an independent state of Biafra, a defunct country since 1967-1970 Nigeria Civil War.
Wikipedia noted Nnamdi Kanu is currently the leader of both ESN and IPOB.
Recall, Kanu had announced the formation of the security outfit on 12 December 2021 championing the protection of eastern states against Fulani raiders.
Kanu has since then instructed settlers within rural communities in the Southeast to relocate to the cities and live like other patriotic Nigerians.
He lamented unabated rape and killing of farmers in their farmlands and converting of major forests into raping and killing fields.
The Nigerian government, however, has recognized ESN as a threat and continued to clampdown on volunteers, Wikipedia stated.
