Trigger-happy inspector kills okada rider for not wearing a face mask in Imo

A police inspector in Imo State has shot dead a 27-year-old commercial motorcyclist, popularly often called okada rider, for allegedly not wearing a face mask.

The ugly incident transpired around about 3 pm on Tuesday at Banana Junction within the Orlu town of Imo State.

Scannews24 gathered {that a} division of police team was deployed to the area to forestall deterioration of law and order.

An eyewitness said that the casualty, a commercial motorcyclist who was conveying a passenger, was shot at a close range by one of the police officers on stop-and-search responsibility.

One other eyewitness  disclosed that the inspector murdered the victim after he declined to offer him cash for not wearing face masks

He stated, “He demanded cash from the okada rider however the man refused. Impulsively he cocked his rifle and shot him at shut vary. The man died instantly.”

On noticing that the motorcyclist had died, the inspector zoomed off but people within went after him.

However, the state Commissioner of Police, Isaac Akinmodele, stated that the diseased, the rider had assaulted the officer with a machete.

The CP, nevertheless, added that the trigger-happy inspector and all of the individuals concerned within the incident would be apprehended.
