Nigeria’s Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP) has urged the Independent National Electoral Commission to publish all financial transactions of all political parties since the year 2015.

SERAP disclosed this on her Twitter post on Sunday, 22nd May 2022 directing INEC to submit the details to National Assembly.

The Rights body also demanded that all remaining cases of vote-buying and related electoral offences are visited and defaulters are prosecuted.

According to the tweep: We’ve asked Professor Mahmood Yakubu, Chairman of INEC to publish the financial transactions of every political party submitted by the body to the National Assembly since 2015.

Then it continued “and to prosecute all outstanding cases of vote buying and other electoral offences.

However, a timeframe for when the requests will be executed was not revealed and the electoral commission has not responded as of the time of filing this report.

Hopefully, this is initiated to facilitate transparency and accountability as the 2023 elections approach.
