Mass Communication Unbundled Into Public Relations, Media Studies, Others, Not Phased Out
As public insinuations that the National Universities Commission (NUC) has phased out Mass Communication Degree in Nigeria institutions, it only splits the profession into seven other degrees.
According to the development, Nigerian institutions offering a degree programme in Mass Communication will henceforth cease.
To meet present demand, the NUC announced on Thursday to unbundle Mass kicks off from 2020 admissions into Nigerian universities.
Prof. Abubakar Rasheed, the NUC’s Executive Secretary while in a chat with journalists in Abuja Thursday, disclosed that the degree programme has been unbundled into Media Studies, Public Relations Studies, Cinematography, among others.
According to the university body, the new Programmes/Departments, to be absorbed in a Faculty/ School/College of Communication and Media Studies includes Public Relations, Journalism & Media Studies, Information & Media, Studies, Advertising, Broadcasting, Film & Multi-Media Studies and Development Communication Studies.
