INEC Declares APC’s Oyebanji Winner Of Ekiti Governorship

Mr. Biodun Oyebanji of the All Progressives Congress has been declared the winner of the just concluded 2022 Ekiti State gubernatorial race by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

The APC contestant defeated his closest rivals after polling a total of 187,057 votes.

The Social Democratic Party (SDP) flag bearer, Segun Oni came second with a total vote of 82,211 while the People’s Democratic Party’s Bisi Kolawole was third with 67,457 votes.

Mr. Kayode Fayemi, the incumbent governor will formally be replaced by Mr. Oyebanji in October.

Oyebanji had during last week’s Ekiti governorship debate, made final public appeals to voters, noting “No society can grow greater than the vision and dream of its leader.

He further promised to lead a prosperous society, and bring to the table 11 years of experience in the public service at the state level, and two years at the federal level.

He continued: “aggregate the best brains of Ekiti all over the world to help me achieve my dreams.”

The exercise officially opened at around 8:30 am (WAT) on Saturday and was expected to close at 2:30 pm (WAT).

According to wide observation by different media agencies, and independent observers, the poll witnessed vote-buying and violence but was largely peaceful.

the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) later embark on a raid and make some arrests.
