Imo govt set to criminalize ex-appointees fleeing with official vehicles
“After today, we will criminalise ex-appointees of the immediate past administration who have refused to return government assets.
The Imo State government on Wednesday said that it would start ‘criminalizing’ the appointees of the immediate past administration who went home with official government vehicles.
The chairman, committee on Recovery of Movable government Assets, Jasper Ndubuaku, at a press conference in Owerri, said that the appointees of the immediate past administration, the immediate past governor, Rochas Okorocha and his wife went away home with official government vehicles and assets valued at N60b.
Ndubuaku said the committee had written to the former appointees to return the government assets all to no avail.
According to him, the ADC to the immediate past governor of the state, went home with six vehicles.
He said “After today, we will criminalise ex-appointees of the immediate past administration who have refused to return government assets.
“These assets include vehicles, spoons, pots, bedsheets, beds and others.
“We have written to them but they are proving stubborn. Do you know that the immediate past governor went home with all the cars in Government House? His wife, who is not recognised by the constitution went home with seven vehicles. The ADC to the immediate past governor left with six vehicles.”
“The appointees looted everything in government house. We will enforce the law by making sure that we recover all of them. We have both their urban and village addresses and we will recover all of the properties of the government they went home with.”
