Gunmen raided Katsina communities, whisked away two girls

Gunmen believed to be bandits wrecked Kurfi town, Katsina State on Sunday night, and kidnapped two girls.

The suspected bandits arrived Sabuwar Unguwar and Sabon Layi communities in the town which is the headquarters of Kurfi Local Government Area of the state late Sunday evening.

Residents lent the names of the kidnapped girls as Nana Friddausi Sani, 17 and Fauziya Sani, 14.

The suspected bandits were said to have kidnapped the 2 girls after forcing their way into the home where they ( the girls) were living in one of the communities.

The residents stated that the suspected bandits left after capturing the girls.

SP Gambo Isah, the Spokesperson for the Katsina Police Command, verified the attack.

He disclosed {that a} middle-aged man had already been apprehended in connection with the incident.

SP Gambo said the arrested man had also been sending threat messages to the mother of one of the kidnapped girls.

He said the person was once convicted for an offence and was given amnesty.

The Spokesman mentioned, “Yes, the Kurfi abduction is true and we have been able to arrest a man who was once writing threat letters demanding money from the mother of one of the abducted girls. The man was once convicted for an offence and he was granted amnesty. Our men are working to ensure that the girls regain their freedom, soon.”

The police spokesman, nevertheless, refuted the report that supposed bandits slew, three persons, on Saturday night at Maitsani village within the Dutsinma Local Government Area of the state.

He said, “The DPO Dutsinma denied that such an incident happened n the council and I believe him.”

Residents, however, provided the names of these killed in the course of the attack in the village as Sada Sani, Shuaibu Abubakar, and Sani Turare.

Turare reportedly died from wounds he suffered after he was admitted at Dutsin-Ma General Hospital.

The said bandits reportedly raved the village on Saturday night, shooting and destroying properties.

They also reportedly injured many residents and carted away numerous sheep and cattle during the raid.
