The Peoples Democratic Party’s stalwart, said this on his Facebook on Tuesday.
Aguiyi-Ironsi was Nigeria’s military head of state between 17 January 1966 to 29 July 1966, after a coup by group of northern army officers revolted against the government, and he was killed.
Kayode, said Ironsi made a greatest mistake to had surrounded himself to the northern armies during the coup.
His post reads: “The greatest mistake that General Johnson Aguiyi Ironsi made was to surround himself with northern officers in an attempt to appease the north after the faiIure of the Jan.15th 1966 coup.
“Those northern officers waited for 6 months after which they stripped him naked, beat him to a pulp and murdered him in cold blood. They also murdered Colonel Francis Fajuyi who had refused to let them take him.
“After that they went on a 12 hour killing spree and slaughtered no less than 300 Igbo Army officers.
