EXPOSED: Northern farmers, residents paying hugely to bandits tax fee revealed

A report has revealed that residents in the North are paying hugely before having access to their businesses in the region.

According to news by Daily Trust, particularly farmers in the Eastern part of Sokoto State said to remit levies to bandits operating in various communities.

Account from dweller of the area noted locales are barred to farm or have access to their farmlands until levies are settled.

Regarding the outrageous levy imposed by the rampaging criminals some of the farmers, based on an eyewitness account, have paid while others are still struggling to make payment.

The billing is being determined by a number of persons in a particular community, #Scannews24 gathered.

Despite presence of government and military operations in the region, citizens are illegally charged 400,000 and some, 700,000 in Naira, annually.

Different areas pay based on their marital status, singles are billed high, N2,000 and head of households pay lesser, N1,000 respectively.

Further finding uncovered that Danmaliki, Sardauna Attalawa, Adamawa, Dukkuma, and Dangari residents were asked to N400,000 each.

Villagers in Kwatsal were tasked to pay N4million however, N2,000,000 has already been remitted partly.

The levies have drastically reduced any form of attack on the Sabon Birni North Constituency, Aminu Almustapha Gobir a representative of the area confirmed to reporters
The people welcomed the development as the only means to restore peace, on contrary the former chair of Sabon Birni Local government area, Idris Muhammad, rejected the act, noting it would not guarantee the safety of the people.
