Tension as another Shia protest turns violent in Abuja
Barely 24 hours after members of the Islamic Movement of Nigeria clashed with security operatives on Monday, Another protests by INM members turns violent in Abuja.
According to report, the peaceful protest, again turned violent after the movement were dispersed by security operatives.
The latest incident happened around Banex, Wuse 2 area of the Federal Capital Territory. Premium Times reports.
The Shi’ite members are demanding the release of their leader, Ibrahim El-Zakzaky, who has been detained since December 2015.
Femi Adesina, a spokesperson to President Muhammadu Buhari, explained earlier, why Sheikh Ibrahim El-Zakzakky, leader of the Islamic Movement of Nigeria (IMN), had remained in detention.
Justice Gabriel Kolawole of a Federal High Court, had granted bail to El-Zakzakky, whose group is better recognised as Shi’ite.
However, he has remained in detention resulting in protests by his follower.
