Tension rises following over 50 vultures reportedly died after allegedly feasting on carcasses at an abattoir in Eke-Ihe Market, Enugu state.
The state police spokesman, Ebere Amaraizu, who confirmed the incident, said the it was the handiwork of poachers who usually mix some concoction with slaughtered animal leftovers, with a view to attracting vultures to it and to consume it. .
In his words: “Further information gathered revealed that after consuming the leftovers, vultures would be weak and subsequently die for the poachers to go and pick them up,” he added.
