BREAKING: Not all insurgents are Nigerians, Borno State Gov Zulum
He said that the composition of the insurgents is scattered across ethnic groups, noting that even expatriates have joined in the attack.
Mr. Babagana Zulum, the Borno State governor, reveale Friday, admitted that although Boko Haram insurgency started from the state, they have now been hijacked by foreign elements due to the nation’s porous borders.
The governor disclosed this to the State House correspondents after a closed-door meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari at the Presidential Villa, over Wednesday’s attack on Gubio and Magumeri local government areas in northern Borno, by Boko Haram insurgents.
He said that the composition of the insurgents is scattered across ethnic groups, noting that even expatriates have joined in the attack.
According to report, the two local government areas have a combined population of almost 300,000 inhabitants.
The insurgents reportedly operated for several hours in Gubio Local government, from 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday until 2:00 a.m. on Thursday without any resistance, carting away drugs, food items, fuel and other valuables.
Proper equipment of the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF) was necessary to end insurgency in the state, the governor stressed.
Zulum further noted that the state borders three countries, Republic of Niger, Chad and Cameron, making it difficult to fully protect such area.
