BREAKING: Fulani dialect, Fulfulde language to be added in school curriculum

MR. Gov. Bello Matawalle the Governor of Zamfara reportedly set to introduce a foreign language, Fulfulde language into the state’s school curriculum.

Accroding to gathered report, the state, is said to kick start the mass construction of 300 hectare Ruga settlements during the week.

The state governor revealed this he received the state’s Ruga settlement master plan from the project consultant in Gusau.

Fulfulde is the predominant language predominantly spoken by the Fulanis across some 20 countries in West and Central Africa.

The governor had earlier announced the carving out of 100 hectares of land in each of the three senatorial districts of Zamfara state for the establishment of the pilot special modern Ruga settlement, the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports.

speaking on behalf of the state’s Council of Chief, Emir of Mafara, Alhaji Muhammad Barmo, urged the state government to include the Fulani language in its the schools’ curriculum, during the presentation of the pilot Ruga settlement.

He said that since the Hausa and the Fulani communities were inseparable and the Hausa language was already being taught in schools, the Fulfulde language should also be taught.

During the meeting, the governor directed the state Ministry of Education to start working out modalities to enable inclusion of the language in the schools’ curriculum.

His words: “This will boost the use of our local languages by our upcoming generations.

“Since we have promised to establish primary and secondary schools at the new Ruga settlements, we will ensure that the local language is not forgotten,” Matawalle said.

While instructing the state government for speedy completion Ruga project, Mafara said the establishment of the Ruga settlement would commence during the celebration of his 100 days in office.

He promised to stock the federal government Ruga settlement programme with modern ways of animal husbandry that would ensure peaceful coexistence among the inhabitants and boost their economic well being.
