Tension in Enugu State following the death of a farmer, identified as Mr. Eugene Anayo Iloabana, reportedly killed by Fulani Herdsmen on his farm yesterday.
The ugly incident was announced after the angry family members brought the remains of the deceased to Orji River Local Government Area amid tears.
According to Lolo Barr. Lady Chinyere Gbugu, the wife of Igwe, Amanato autonomous community who briefed newsmen said Mr. Eugene left for farm Monday morning, 29 June 2020 as he always does but was not seen by evening.
The lifeless corpse of the deceased was brought to the Oji River Local Government council this morning by angered family and community members.
After much anticipated return, the family prompted neighborhood giving rise to emergency search into the farmland, and the corpse was discovered lifeless with a series of cuts. Lolo Amanato narrated.
After the discovery, the community, Igwe Palace, and the LGA Police were alerted.
Reacting on the issues, the Local government Chairman, Barr. Frank Udemezue prayed for peaceful depose of Mr. Eugene, promised to improve security in the area.
Udemezue appealed to the youths to be calm and not to take laws into their hands, adding the death will not be swept under the carpet.
” This is the best time to engage our brains and strategize more on best ways to avert the repeat of this ugly incident in Oji River” the Chairman added.
